Your Addiscombe & East Croydon Labour Action Team
Patricia, Mark and Sean have been selected as the Labour Party candidates for Addiscombe Ward, and we are seeking your views on how to make Addiscombe and Croydon better. We have set out below some of things we beleive in and what we want to do to make Addiscombe a better place to live.
Patricia
As a Croydon citizen and a mother, I am passionate that we leave a legacy of which future generations may be proud. My partner and I attend Croydon Parish Church and I am on the Parish Church Council. For several years I have been a union member and support the Co-operative movement. I also actively support several local charities.
My vision for Addiscombe is for there to be excellent education, recreation and youth facilities. I want Addiscombe to embrace environmental improvement and sustainability. I want to see the streets safe and clean. I want to protect the community against inappropriate development. Finally, I want to see local businesses flourish, creating new local jobs. Patricia Hay-Justice
Mark
I have lived in Addiscombe for over 18 years, first in Oval Road and now in Lebanon Road. I was a local councillor for 4 years as I wanted to serve the local community I lived in. I am passionate about green issues and work for a local environmental company, I want to make it easier for everyone to recycle all their rubbish. One of my proudest achievements was to help oversee the setting up of the Family Justice Centre in Croydon, one of the first in the country, and which works to protect families, children and woman from harm.
As an Addiscombe resident i rely on public transport to get around. I am campaigning for trams to be extended to Crystal Palace, Sutton and South Croydon, to protect local buses from Boris's cutbacks, and to make sure that East Croydon Station is rebuilt with the needs of Addiscombe residents in mind. Mark Watson
Sean
I grew up in Croydon and represented Addiscombe as a Councillor for 12 years. As an Addiscombe resident, who lives in Edward Road, I am proud of the improvements the Labour Party have made locally.
The rebuilding of the Sir Phillip Game Centre, the creation of the Addiscombe Linear Park, first green open space in this ward for over 80 years; getting the Labour Government to fund the rebuilding of Coleby Court as a specialist care home for the elderly; knocking down 3 run down tower blocks at Gordon Crescent and replacing them with family homes with gardens; and the extra funding for betters schools and the local NHS. More recently I kicked-started the campaign against the construction of the Menta Skyscrapers on Cherry Orchard Roads, which resulted in the Tory Council withdrawing its support at the planning meeting.
Addiscombe is one of the most densely built-up areas of Croydon. I oppose luxury high-rise housing developments that ruin the character of the local area. I am a strong supporter of providing affordable housing for Addiscombe residents to rent and to buy. Sean Fitzsimons
