Addington High Success

Very soon the Council will publish the results of the consultation on closing down Addington High.

We hope that they will listen and ensure that Addington retains a High School for our Town.

We have also been doing a lot of work to bring change to Addington that builds on the success of Addington High, yet brings a new school building with revitalised links and ownership by the wider community.

This is not about a 'one size fits all' solution for Croydon Schools. The Croydon Tories seem wedded to the idea of closing Addington High and replacing it with an Academy. Labour thinks this would throw away the amazing work that the school has done under the inspirational leadership of Head Tim Davies (pictured right).

Councillor Geogre Ayres has already met Ed Balls (pictured below), the Secretary of State for Education and has invited him to visit Addington High when his diary allows.

Labour is committed

to improve education in Croydon and New Addington. We do not believe that replacing Addington High with an Academy run by a new team of teachers and governors will do anything to improve the quality of education in Addington.

Addington High has had a record year of results.

  • 94% of students left with 5 GCSEs.
  • 33% left with 5 GCSEs including English and Maths at grades A* - C
  • The school also has excellent 'Value Added' scores - some of the highest in Croydon.
  • Full result breakdowns will be confirmed and published in the coming weeks.
  • The school fully meets Government targets and is continuing to improve.

A School to be proud of. A School that is at the heart of its community.
