Labour: fighting for you across Croydon and Sutton
If you are one of 100's of Addiscombe residents who received a postal vote this weekend you are about to decide who will represent you in Parliament and on Croydon Council. Your decision will affect your lives for the next 4 years. Your vote counts in Addiscombe.
Why vote Labour in Croydon Central: Britain is coming out of a major world economic crisis and it was only the forceful interventions of Gordon Brown, Alastair Darling and your Labour Government that stopped an economic catastrophe happening. Governments can make a difference and the Labour Party has shown this by its successful interventionist approach to the banking crisis and the support they gave to key industries such as car manufacturing. Compare this to the hands-off attitudes of the Thatcher and Major Governments of the 1980's and 1990's that condemn whole communities to decade long periods of unemployment misery, the very same policies the current Conservatives want to repeat.
If you want a strong economy, one that provides jobs and security for you, your family, and your friends and neighbours, it is only the Labour Party which will deliver this. Gerry Ryan, our Labour Candidate for Croydon Central, is the only serious candidate who puts a strong economy first.
Why Vote Labour in Addiscombe: Addiscombe is at a cross road and only Labour will stop the Tory obession with Skyscrapers and luxury penthouses steamrolling our local community. Addiscombe is a low rise residential area, it is not suitable for 52-storey high skyscrapers, even if the speculators have the support of Conservative Council Leader Mike Fisher. Your Labour Party want Cherry Orchard Road and East Croydon regenerated now, and not have another 4 years of Tory Blight. Your Tory Council and local Tory Councillors supported the selling off Cherry Orchard Gardens to Menta, and they only did a last minute u-turn against Menta's application when they understood the anger of local residents at their decision. This hasn't stopped the Council working with Menta on a new "East Croydon Masterplan" that won't see the light of day until after the election. We wonder why?
Addiscombe needs investment, not Conservative cuts to our vital services, to pay for a luxury HQ for Senior Officers and Councillors to lord over the rest of Croydon. Addiscombe needs better street lighting, pavements and roads, to get rid of potholes, more police officers on the streets during the evening and weekends. Addiscombe needs councillors who will engage with all residents of Addiscombe, not just the ones who agree with them. Addiscombe needs councillors who don't move to Bromley and forget to tell Addiscombe residents that they left Croydon months beforehand. Addiscombe needs Councillors who will put Addiscombe first.
Only the Labour Party can defeat the Conservatives in Addiscombe. A vote for any other party will allow the Conservatives back in, with their destrutive planning proposals and support for over development of our local area.
