Waddon Labour Action Team News
  • Tories fail to deliver new kitchens and bathrooms for Waddon council tenants
Waddon council residents complain that new kitchens and bathrooms haven't been installed. Over the last 4 years, the Tory Council have failed to ensure that residents on the Waddon estate have new kitchens and bathrooms to replace ageing facilities. All councils are supposed to have met the 'Decent Homes Standards' by 2010 and it is a shame that the incompetent Tory Council have failed to deliver basic standards of accommodation to its tenants. An older resident told us: "I've lived on this estate for over 30 years and I've been told I have to wait until 2018 before I'll see...
  • Pampisford Road Survey results
Residents of Pampisford Road have told the Waddon Labour Action Team that Croydon Council needs to do better. Issues they have raised include: poor street lighting, fear of crime, speeding traffic, lack of public transport, lack of parking and housing overdevelopment. Your Labour Action Team have taken up these issues as the local Tory councillors are ignoring residents concerns. Joy said "Many residents tell us that they like living in the Pampisford Road area but are frustrated by the lack of attention given to the area by Croydon Council and its Tory Councillors. We promise to champion the concerns of...
  • Waddon residents still in dark after 4 years of Tory rule
Waddon residents still in dark after 4 years of Tory ruleAfter 4 years of Tory rule street lighting in Waddon is as bad as ever. Although Labour Government has provided funding to Croydon to upgrade its street lighting, the current Tory Council has failed to improve any of Waddon's street lights in the last 4 years. On the doorstep many Waddon residents tell your Labour action team of their fear of going out on the street at night due to the poor lighting. Many women have told us that if the street lighting was better they would feel much safer, especially when walking home at night in the winter. In...
  • Local residents views about new Leisure Centre ignored by Tory Council
Hamida, Dave, Joy have been talking to local residents about the failure of the Tories to deliver the new leisure centre this year, as promised by them in 2006. For the last 4 years this site has been an eyesore, due to the failure of the Tory Council to agree a deal with developers to rebuild this site as both a leisure centre, and provision of housing. Local Tories have blamed others for their failure to start work on this site, when it is clear it is their own incompetence that was a major factor in this site being left...
  • Residents protest against loss of community hall
Residents protest against loss of community hallResidents on the Waddon Estate are furious that the Council has dropped plans for a dedicated community hall as part of the redevelopment of the Waylands and Propeller pub site This protest was organised by local residents and had a strong turn out. Speaking to local residents it was clear that their top priority was a dedicated space to bring the community together. This comes on top of the three year delay in building a swimming pool on the site by the Tory Council who have...
