Tories press on

As the dust settles from the General and Local elections, it is now clear that Croydon Tories are pressing on with their development of a luxury Council HQ.

Despite the new cuts being put forward by the Conservative Liberal Democrat government, the Croydon Tories believe it is right to go on and develop their £450million scheme.

  • The interest on their £145million loan is £7million per year.
  • The new HQ will only house 2/3rds of the exisiting council staff.
  • The Tories plan to place the Fairfield Halls into the scheme (threatening its very survival).

Labour have said that the scheme should be halted. It would be far better to divert this money to protect exisiting public services and invest in schools, swimming pools and older people.

IF Labour had won an additional council ward in the local elections, this scheme would now have been halted and the Council would be consulting on a new set of priorities on how the Council should cope with budget reductions at the same time as investing in local communities
