Tories Make Election Choice

The Conservatives have now made it crystal clear that their £450million development scheme for a Luxury Council HQ is a key proposal for the local elections due on May 6th.

Labour has made it clear that we will stop this scheme if elected on May 6th in the Borough Council Elections.

Key reasons to stop this scheme:

  • Croydon has plenty of office space empty and available at a reasonable rent
  • The exisiting Council HQ building has just had £12million of tax payers money spent refurbishing it, including £2million on a new reception
  • Croydon Tax Payers can not afford to borrow £145million to finance the development.
  • Croydon Residents can not afford to hand over land and property built up over generations to a private company in return for a luxury office building.

Labour plans to invest in community facilities instead. This will include a series of new Swimming Pools and Leisure centres at New Addington, East Croydon, Purley Way - Five Ways, South Norwood and we will keep open the Purley Town Centre Swimming Pool that was opened only in 1982 - yet the Tory Council plan to close it and sell it off to developers.
