Reasons to vote Labour in South Norwood and Croydon North

If you are one of 100's of South Norwood residents who received a postal vote over the past week you are about to decide who will represent you in Parliament and on Croydon Council. Your decision will affect your lives for the next 4 years. Your vote counts in South Norwood.

Why vote Labour in Croydon North: Britain is coming out of a major world economic crisis and it was only the forceful interventions of Gordon Brown, Alastair Darling and your Labour Government that stopped an economic catastrophe happening. Governments can make a difference and the Labour Party has shown this by its successful interventionist approach to the banking crisis and the support they gave to key industries such as car manufacturing. Compare this to the hands-off attitudes of the Thatcher and Major Governments of the 1980's and 1990's that condemn whole communities to decade long periods of unemployment misery, the very same policies the current Conservatives want to repeat.

If you want a strong economy, one that provides jobs and security for you, your family, and your friends and neighbours, it is only the Labour Party which will deliver this. Malcolm Wicks, our Labour Candidate for Croydon North, is the only serious candidate who puts a strong economy first. Malcolm has served in various posts since he has been MP for Croydon North, such as Minister for Science and Energy.

Why Vote Labour in South Norwood: Your Labour Party want South Norwood district centre regenerated now, and not have another 4 years of Tory Blight. Your Tory Council and local Tory Councillors supported the cancellation of the tram line extension from Norwood Junction to Crystal Palace; and they only showed their muted opposition when they understood the anger of local residents at Mayor Boris Johnson’s decision. This hasn't stopped the Council secretly supporting Mayor Boris Johnson's decision to cancel the environmentally friendly tram extension. We wonder why?

South Norwood is crying out for regeneration and needs investment, not Conservative cuts to our vital services, to pay for a luxury HQ for Senior Officers and Councillors to lord over the rest of Croydon. South Norwood needs better street lighting, pavements and roads, to get rid of potholes, more police officers on the streets during the evening and weekends. South Norwood needs councillors who will engage with all residents of South Norwood, not just the ones who agree with them. South Norwood needs councillors who stand up for the community and local businesses. The Tory campaign to 'Save Our Shops' campaign sounds plausible, but do the draconian parking enforcement policies of the Conservative council support local businesses and hard working families during a time of economic difficulties? Your Labour candidates, Jane Avis, Katy Bee and Wayne Lawlor campaigned tirelessly with South Norwood businesses to introduce a period of free parking, but when the Tories only gave us 12 bays in Station Road with a period of 30-minutes free parking, they forget to tell South Norwood residents their parking permit charges will go up by 8% as a result.

South Norwood residents need Councillors who will put South Norwood first. Only the Labour Party can defeat the Conservatives in South Norwood. A vote for any other party will allow the Conservatives back in, with their destructive proposals not to support businesses and support for over zealous parking enforcement.
