Purley: Danger Ahead

Jane Avis has taken a keen interest in Purley Town Centre and the Conservative Council's plans to knock down the Car Park, Swimming Pool and old Sainsbury store.

The council are currently proposing to move the pool to Coulsdon and replace the Car Park and swimming pool with a housing development and some small community facilities.

While the community facilities are welcome, the council has still not confirmed how they would fund the running costs

Jane Avis said "We still have so many questions to be answered before we can welcome this scheme. At the moment, it looks like the loss of the car park would devastate local businesses"

This would be a double whammy for Purley from the local conservatives who granted planning permission for the massive Tesco Store in the first place. Shutting the car park could be the final straw for local shops.
