Purley Way Supermarkets

Supermarket giants Tesco and Morrison’s are both seeking planning permission to build new super stores on the Purley Way and Croydon South Labour is seeking your views.

Building two new supermarkets will clearly provide new shopping outlets and also create new jobs in Waddon. However, the Fiveways junction is one of the busiest and most polluted road junctions in South London. Pollution levels are already in excess of the Government standards. Traffic is jammed up all day and buses are severely delayed.

The proposed supermarkets would rely on car usage and therefore increase the number of cars on the A23 and other local roads by up to 30 per cent.

Do you think we need two more supermarkets on the Purley Way?

Should the new supermarkets contribute to improved traffic flow measures across the most congested areas of the Purley Way?

Should the new supermarkets contribute to improved public transport on the Purley Way

Should the new supermarkets contribute to improving air quality levels across the most congested area of the Purley Way?

What else should the new supermarkets do to improve things locally?
