Croydon Labour is celebrating a partial victory for our year long Parking Tax campaign. The Tories finaly agreed to give 30 minutes free parking at selected bays in selected district centres. This still means the Tories are treating Addiscombe and South Norwood differently to Coulsdon. That is not fair. Labour has pledged to introduce 60 minutes free parking in order that we can bring support local shops and local jobs. This policy will be valid across Croydon, and not just where the Tory vote is strongest!...

This video was shot in Thornton Heath. Local shops have taken the petition and enthusiastically backed the campaign. Labour is calling on the Tory Croydon Council to introduce a 'fair parking policy'. This would help back local shops, businesses and jobs. This would offer real help for local shopping. This will help local shops thrive. Enabling people to park easily to visit their local shops benefits everyone, especially those without a car who depend on local shops. The Labour Party in Croydon today launched a hard hitting Campaign aimed at the Tory Council abuse of the Parking situation in Croydon. In 2009 the Tory Council will be collecting at least another £700,000 in parking fines, parking charges and permit charges for residents, charities and businesses. This is an unfair tax on local shops, residents and businesses Unfair treatment of residents - one rule for Coulsdon, another rule for the rest of the borough Costing local jobs - local shops and businesses are suffering from this punitive parking regime
