Oona King meets Croydon South Members

Croydon South Labour Party meeting with Oona King 26th August 2010

 

On Thursday 26th August Oona King.  Addressed a meeting of Croydon South Labour Party members.

Oona King who is one of the key short listed candidates for the Labour nomination for London Mayor in 2012, took time off from her busy campaign schedule to attend the meeting in Croydon.

Oona talked about her time and her achievements as MP for Bethnal Green and Bow. She gave her views on the need to improve public transport in outer London including, buses, local train services and extending the Tram across south London.

The need to maintain the Freedom Pass for London Pensioners.

On the economy she explained how he would change the balance of the London economy and the need to improve housing for working people. How to ensure the maintenance and standard of all housing was improved in London.

She said it was very important to provide incentives to young people of all races and communities to wider their experiences of life, Far too many young people had not experienced life more than a few miles outside their own community and these was a big factor in gang culture.

London had an excellent art and cultural base were people came from all over the word to visit, but it needed to a city for all its residents not just those the well to do.

Finally she gave her opinion on how the Labour Party should reform itself and she was backing Ed Miliband as its new leader. She  explained that the party needs to look after both its traditional supporters and the middle classes who will be hurt badly by the both announced cuts and the proposes cuts that would come in the new coalition Government’s autumn statement.
