‘MAYDAY A & E SAFE’ ASSURES WICKS
Malcolm Wicks, the Labour MP for Croydon North, whose constituency includes Mayday Hospital, has stepped into the controversy about the future of its Accident and Emergency Department with strong words of reassurance:-
“I am 100% confident that Mayday’s A & E Department will be maintained, following the current NHS Review. I support the review’s objectives – to build a modern NHS fit to tackle the health needs of the 21st Century."
“This requires a modernisation of GP services and local centres across the borough where patients can go for diagnosis and treatment. We must face the fact that too many people currently go to A & E, with relatively minor problems, who could and should be treated locally. A & E should be used for what it says on the tin – true accidents, genuine emergencies.
“I deplore scaremongering about the future of Mayday Hospital for narrow political purposes. I have confidence in the review and the services resulting from it will be stronger and better targeted.”
