Local residents views about new Leisure Centre ignored by Tory Council

Hamida, Dave, Joy have been talking to local residents about the failure of the Tories to deliver the new leisure centre this year, as promised by them in 2006. For the last 4 years this site has been an eyesore, due to the failure of the Tory Council to agree a deal with developers to rebuild this site as both a leisure centre, and provision of housing. Local Tories have blamed others for their failure to start work on this site, when it is clear it is their own incompetence that was a major factor in this site being left derelict.

Your Labour Action Team have campaigned for a dedicated commmunity centre, which the local Tories have opposed. Instead they are offering a couple of rooms in the new leisure centre, which won't meet the needs of the local community. Residents want a community centre that can provide space for luncheon clubs, residents meetings, play schemes, mother and toddler groups, childrens dance classes, plus many other activities.

Dave Christison said "Local Tory Councilllors seem more interested  in having their photos in the local papers, than representing the people of Waddon. We will put the needs of the community first, not the needs of the Croydon Tory publicity machine."
