Labour: fighting for you across Croydon and Sutton
"Too many of our locals streets are poorly lit, and I feel scare when I walk home at night". A resident of Dartmell Road this week told a member of Addiscombe Labour Party about their fears for their own safety because of the inadequate lighting in their local street.
In 2006 the then Labour Croydon Council agree a deal with the Labour Government for funding to replace all the old 1950's street lighting we have and replace it with better modern street lighting. Sadly, the last 4 years of Tory rule in Croydon has seen lots of dithering but no action, and the street lighting in Addiscombe is as bad as ever.
Patricia Hay-Justice said. "Many side streets in Addiscombe only have lighting on one side of the road. As a women I don't feel safe walking down a street at night when I can't make out the faces of the pople coming towards me."
If elected, the Addiscombe Labour Party promises to take action on this issue, and rather than spend money on building a new luxury Council HQ, we promise to spend the some of the saving we would make on improving local services, including upgrading all street lighting in Addiscombe.
The Addiscombe Labour Party would also ensure that the new lighting was more eco-friendly so we will be helping to improve the environment as well.
