Labour demands a halt to care privatisation

Labour demands a halt to privatisation of quality care for elderley and vulnerable

At Monday night’s meeting of the Full Council, Labour Councillors will be appealing to Tory Councillors and Cllr Fisher to scrap his policy of selling off the high quality care that the most vulnerable elderly people in Croydon receive, especially in the light of the Southern Cross scandal.

Despite calls from Labour Councillors to reconsider, Cllr Mike Fisher dismissed the suggestions of an urgent inquiry, leaving families, staff and vulnerable people in Croydon in the lurch.

Labour Leader Cllr Tony Newman said: “I am appealing to Councillor Fisher at the eleventh hour to listen to the concerns of residents and staff and rethink his controversial and ill-conceived plans. Under the last Labour council we planned and secured new homes with high quality care. The Tory council are determined to sell of hard working care workers to organisation with scandalous track records.”

Labour’s spokesperson for Health and Adult and Social Care, Cllr Jane Avis said: “A national scandal has hit Southern Cross but Croydon Tories are determined to continue to bury their heads in the sand and are proceeding to sell off our well run care homes in Croydon.”.
