Labour: fighting for you across Croydon and Sutton
Labours Planning Spokesperson Councillor George Ayres said he was "delighted that the Secretary of State had now made her decision".
He added “Stanhope are first rate developers and will be an excellent addition to our Town, I was hugely impressed with the presentation they gave at a recent meeting of the Labour Shadow Cabinet. This decision should now secure the future of the Warehouse Theatre and I am today calling on the Tory Council to immediately back us in stating publicly that the Fairfield Halls must be part of the long term future for our Town. It is now essential that we must have an International standard of Cultural offer to spearhead the Regeneration of Croydon, if we are really serious about becoming London’s third City”
Labour Leader Tony Newman said.
“The Gateway result taken alongside the collapse of the Hyde Swimming Pool/Housing scheme in Waddon, the delayed Tesco scheme in New Addington, the Closure of Purley Pool, the millions wasted on the failed ACPOA parking Contract and the uncertainty around Allders long term future confirms that this Tory Council in Croydon is simply not up to the Job of Leading Croydon’s ongoing Regeneration, instead of Grandiose claims about being the new Barcelona we are in danger of becoming just another anonymous outer London Suburb”
