Croydon Advertiser asks the right questions

The Croydon Advertiser has been working on exposing the truth behind the Luxury Tory Council HQ for some time.

In the latest twist to the tale, the Croydon Advertiser has been battling the Council to reveal the full facts behind its £450million scheme.

The Council has refused to do this, on the grounds that the public interest is not as important as those of the Company that it co - owns with John Laing.

This is the HQ that the Tory Council claims is costing tax payers "nothing" because it claims that handing over land and buildings to a private company does not count.

The accounting for the scheme is not transparent.

The Tories have been challenged to publish the facts and figures behind the scheme, but have consistently refused.

Labour spokesperson for Democracy, Councillor Timothy Godfrey said "the ordinary Council Tax payer of Croydon deserves answers. Only a sick council would refuse to share basic information with the people who are ultimately paying for this scheme. Democracy is a sham when the Tories do deals behind closed doors. It is time our borough Council treated residents with some respect."
