Central Parade re-development
The successful application to have parts of Central Parade designated as a Village Green has scuppered the Council's existing plans for a re-development based on the construction of a large Tesco Supermarket together with a large number of apartments built above the store.
This delays the delivery of the much needed new swimming pool, health centre and other community facilities. But it does give the community the opportunity to take the lead in deciding how Central Parade should be developed.
I'd personally like to see in tha Parade features that attract the vast majority of residents who want to enjoy a community event. The events could be open air musical, dance or child focussed and sufficiently regular to satisfy a broad range of tastes.
The Parade should also be used to express the communities values perhaps with the construction of a memorial, a fountain, a bandstand. Perhaps a number of flower beds and shrubs to make it more enjoyable to pedestrians both during the day and in the summer evenings.
Access to good clean and accessible toilet facilities will also be welcome.
