Labour: fighting for you across Croydon and Sutton
Pictured left to right are Labour party candidates for South Norwood Ward: Wayne Lawlor, Councillor Jane Avis, Kathy Bee.
Labour's candidates in South Norwood successfully campaigned for a period of free parking in South Norwood, following expressions of concern from South Norwood businesses that the Conservative council's draconian parking policies are squeezing the life out of South Norwood. The Tory administration agreed to 12 parking bays having a period of 30 mintues free parking in Station Road.
Labour candidate Wayne Lawlor said, "I have first hand experience as to how the Tory parking enforcement policy works in South Norwood. I came down to the High Street to have a coffee and buy some groceries. I returned to my car and discovered that I had been issued with a Penatly Charge Notice because I bought my ticket from the 'wrong machine'. After numerous appeals to the council were rejected, I decided that my colleagues and I needed to campaign against this ridiculous policy. It is not only strangling the life out of South Norwood, but also hitting hard working families in the pocket. We need financial support during tough economic times"
Labour candidate Jane Avis said, "It is ironic that the Tory prospective parliamentary candidate for Croydon North is going around with the message 'Save Our Shops'! South Norwood businesses tell us that they feel bullied, intimidated and threatened by this Tory council. It is about time that the Tories put their internal arguments aside and put South Norwood residents first."
Labour candidate Kathy Bee said, "Croydon Conservatives have given with one and and taken with another. The 30-minutes free parking in Station road sounds good, right? Well, it isn't that great for residents whose permits have increased by a staggering 8%. Most businesses in South Norwood will soon realise the devastating impact of the Conservative administrations policy on business."
